17 APR 2019—Reno, NV.  LumEfficient’s Randy Reid spoke at the NAILD Conference in Reno, NV about the state of the industry. His talk focused on the transformation and how prices—and profits—have been sinking over the past several years.

Reid cited the problem with contractors and end users buying direct from BigChinaLED or from Amazon and he warned the audience that he has inside information that Google is getting into the E-Commerce business and how Google plans to be the “Pepsi” compared to  Amazon being the “Coca-Cola.”

Reid offered solutions such as focusing on new technology like LiFi and Bluetooth Mesh and he offered a demonstration of how electrical distributors can beat Amazon. As he began the meeting, he pushed a button on his phone which ordered a Jimmy John’ sandwich and that sandwich was delivered to the conference room during the middle of his talk. The point he made is that sandwich could have been a replacement lamp or a replacement ballast delivered to a contractor who is on a rented lift.

Reid challenged the audience of Innovative Lighting Distributors to embrace digital technology and increase their value to their customers.
